Talk radio tick tack toe, the down side...

So living in the Cape is gorgeous and all that, BUT... Don’t you love how life always throws the buts!!

But No,.1: Radio here is completely and utterly crap! I was addicted to John Robbie en Jenny Crews-Williams on 702, now I have to listen to the ramblings of Solly Filander. No offence to Solly I am sure the People in Cape talk land love him. In 702 land however you have Jenny's sophisticated shows, talks on books , wine and Q and A, how I miss Q and A. Solly rambles on about saving the whales and the monkeys and I can’t even remember what else because I find it completely and utterly boring. No proper music stations either, you have a wide range of choice between Kfm and 5fm, great!! If I knew this I would have appreciated radio in Gauteng so much more. I want TUKS FM! I want proper music not all this R and B commercial crap! On the bright side at least KFM’s got wackhead, I promptly switch on my radio at 7:40 for his dose of humor and then just as promptly resort back to my ipod when he is done. I am so out of touch with the news because I don’t have a TV either, which does’nt bother me, but no 702 seriously! I don't even know where they found the French plain that crashed, if at all! I am living in seclusion. Was it even French? Having no reception in my still gorgeous little cottage I can’t get streaming radio either, my hands are cut of! I am officially out of touch with the world apart from my trips to Spur to update you all and read my mails!

But No. 2: Tick tack, toe... Yes you heard/read correctly. TICK! Have a look at Bella’s new look. Now Cape weather friendly, my poor dog has been clipped, nipped and shaved. Complete with a little frikking jersey to top of the new mohawk look. It kills me but a girls gotta do what a girls gotta do. Long luscious curls just don’t work in this constantly wet weather to both my and Bella’s dismay. Straightening and blow waving for me is a complete waste of time, as soon as you step outside into the dampness there goes the frizz. Bella has the problem of constantly being damp from the waist down. I have to say shaving her was a good decision, she keeps dry and can run around without mopping my floor with mud once she retires to her basket.

Now I am left with the actual problem. I am not sure if this is because of the short hair or because she is settling in and wondering around allot more on the farm with the great weather we have been having and all. But I have a tick infestation. Note to self, seriously consider medical aid for your dog in case of tick bite fewer which at this stage seems highly likely. I am so grossed out I must have flushed 5 ticks down the drain just today, those are just the blood thirsty ones I have found running around my place. Bella gets searched between the toes (i think that's where you should check) and behind the ears regularly now. My dog is seriously getting more groom time than me! I found 2 on her today! Arrrggghh. Apparently you shouldn't just pull them of in case the heads stays behind or something, but this might just be some twisted useless info I stored in the large part of my brain that remembers all this crap! I then remember this trick a horse riding friend of mine always used. So with Bella chilling on my lap I pull closer the Vaseline and smother the ticks with it, its suppose to make them not be able to breathe, die and fall of!!! Dam I hope my brain remembers it right because I have spent 30 minutes today combing out her fringe (the only long hair left) and ears from black jacks that she picked up enthusiastically with our walk through the vineyards. All of this in one day, maybe I should just, I don’t know what, cope!! Grooming my dog is turning into a full time job. Please experience her 70 hair do because of the black jacks! I love my dogs curly fringe, it’s so much a part of her character but I am seriously considering just getting rid of it.

Bella makes a fashion statement with her new “teased” look...

I would like to take this opportunity to thank my mother for convincing me to get neutral coloured linen. Ticks would have been very hard to spot and would have camouflaged well on the original plum coloured bed spread I was going to opt for. I would also like to to share with you my latest shower ritual, Bella gets 40 minutes groom time so I at least need 5. Wash wash wash, then check in every nook and cranny for unwanted blood thirsty guests. When on holiday my couple friends always thought it was a big joke when in the Kruger (or anywhere with long grass for that matter) when they retire to their room very discreetly to “check for ticks” as they call it. Well I really have ticks and no one to check for them, or give me value added service!
To be continued...
